Koinonia – The Martin Luther Camp Corporation

Koinonia is a Greek word meaning “community,” specifically, being in communion with God and other people.

The first seeds of the vision that became Koinonia began as an idea in 1959 when the Bible Camp Committee was established by Lutheran Churches of New York City in response to concerns for youth ministry. Over the next few years of research, investigation of potential sites, the establishment of the Martin Luther Camp Corporation, with the help of many dedicated and committed founders from New York and New Jersey, Koinonia was born.

Today, the stakeholders of Koinonia - individuals, families and congregations – continue to live by Koinonia’s mission and look forward to another half-century of transformational ministry.

“Koinonia is where God transforms and prepares people in an outdoor environment to love and serve one another.”
